Did you know that you can use MAFI parts to create almost any mounting solution you can imagine? And very quickly prove that it works structurally?
We can’t give you an in-depth course in a short newsletter article, but let’s look quickly at designing “clip-on” head frames for almost any tower, by using a couple of examples.MAFI products are super flexible, but you do need to know some basic things about the tower at the position you’re going to mount your new kit:
• Are the legs vertical or parallel?
• How far apart are they?
• Are they tubular or angular?
• Approximately what diameter or size are they? Skinny, or good and chunky?
• Does the diagonal bracing of the tower project beyond the plane of the legs?
Here’s an example of a skinny, parallel tower head where you want to mount six antennas. There wouldn’t be room around the existing tower to mount six antennas, and even if you could, it would be questionable practice to use the thin tower legs as parents of pairs of antennas. Our solution is to plant a more robust pole at each corner, at the same time producing a bigger triangle. The new parent poles are mounted on the end of short 60 x 60 square beams, which in turn span between two legs, attached with MAFI 5311 joint plate kits. From there, we simply mount the antennas on traditional MAFI 3268 symmetric offsets.
Now here’s (right photo) a big tubular-leg tower that’s changing from non-parallel to parallel, right where we want to put a headframe. The legs are substantial and more than 2m apart and we want to support three very large and heavy antennas on each face, to replace the existing pairs of antennas at the corners. Here’s what it looked like before the upgrade (right photo).
The parts used in the previous example aren’t appropriate here as the loads and spans are much bigger, and the legs aren’t nice and parallel. We used MAFI 3610 raking Tower leg offsets to plant a new vertical Ø114.3 pole at each corner, with an extra bracket arm in between because the total load supported would exceed the capacity of the normal two brackets. Then, using MAFI crossover plates as connectors, we spanned pairs of 3m long horizontal Ø114.3 tubes between the new corner poles with three vertical Ø 76.1 tubes on each face to support the antennas. All these are standard MAFI parts available for next-day delivery.
This headframe was designed in one afternoon, approved and ordered the following day,
delivered to site the next morning and built the same day.
If you would like to learn how to do this, why not book a seminar with MAFI?

”I hope I can contribute with the experiences I bring from a large company,” says Jan Fridén.
He began the 1st of February in MAFI as Manager Business Unit MAFI Integrated Solution.
He is coming from Ericsson, where he´s been working for 17 years. At MAFI he is head of the company´s new division, MAFI Integrated Solutions (MIS). It is the part of MAFI that develops unique customized solutions. He is also part of the company´s management team.
”My mission is to search new customers and build an organization within MIS,” he says. ”Initially, I will also work with sales, but as the organization grows, I will have more managing and senior duties.
Janne is analytical, good at creating trust and an open business climate.
”I have also been product manager for the kind of solutions that MAFI develops and manufactures, so I think I can contribute from my previous customer perspective.”
In February, Janne aims to put together a business plan with the management team, get to know MAFI and its employees better and make at least two customer visits.
”I hope to be able to help with MAFI´s various processes, and to develop what the company is already good at, like high delivery precision, to perceive customer needs and to develop ´simple products solving complex problems´.”
He thinks it will be fun and exciting to get started with his tasks.
”I have always believed that MAFI is a solid company. It is relatively small, but still global. Recently, it has evolved and grown and is prepared to continue in the same direction. Taking part on that journey will be exciting.
Janne is born in Dalarna, but lives in Vassunda, north of Stockholm. He will mainly work from MAFI’s office in Kista.
”When I’m not working,” he finishes, ”I like to spend time with my family, wife and two children. And I also like to hunt, play golf and to renovate.”Jan Fridén is, as from today, the first manager for MAFI´s new division, MAFI Integrated Solutions.
Jan, or Janne, as he is usually called, is an Electro engineer, specialized in microwave and optotechnology. At Ericsson, he had assignments as System manager, project manager, product manager and line manager.[blockquote text=””I think I can contribute from my

See you there!
Welcome!
After a convincing 2017, sailor Johannes Pettersson is aiming to raise his lowest level this year. The goal is to reach several top positions in international competitions.
”When my sailing career is over, I hope to have sailed in the Olympic Games, and got a medal, preferably one in gold,” he says.Johannes was born and raised in Mora, Sweden, the same city where MAFI has its headquarters.
As we reach Johannes on the phone, he is just heading to Miami, United States. There he will train for a few weeks before competing in the World Cup.
”Travelling to lots of exciting places is one of the things that makes the sailing fun and exciting,” he says. ”I have been to many places in Europe. This year I will go to Spain, France, the Netherlands, Germany and Denmark. And at the end of the season, I will probably go to Japan, to sail in the same arena as the Olympic Games will be held in 2020.”
Among his main merits, Johannes places gold in the Swedish Junior Championship 2015, as well as an 8th place in the Junior World Cup and a 37th place in the World Cup last year. The successes led to the attention of Johannes and gained him a place in both the KSSS (Royal Swedish Royal Swedish Yacht Club) and the national team.
But just two years ago, it did not look so bright for Johannes. In 2016 he finished the sailing school in Motala, and the step to taking full responsibility for the entire business became a significant transformation.
”But in 2017 I beat my expectations! I bought a new sail and mast for my Finn, increased my speed and improved the results.”
As a consequence of his success, he received a request to train with Max Salminen and Tapio Nirkko, both of whom belong to the international sailing elite.
”Of course I said yes,” continues Johannes. When I work with them, I learn a lot, and my results improve.”
This season he will compete in the Junior World Cup, as well as in the European Cup and World Cup. This year’s most important competition will be the World Cup in Danish Aarhus in August.
”Then, the first nation’s places to the Olympic Games in Japan will be assigned, so I need to be in great shape by then!”
Johannes began to sail as a nine-year-old. Then he was also doing motocross and downhill skiing. But when he noticed that he had the most talent for the sailing, he quit the other sports. But talent is not enough!
”I do around seven work-outs a week,” he reveals. ”And on average over a year, I may sail fifteen days a month.”
But neither exercise nor good physics is enough to reach the top.
”Sailing is a material sport,” explains Johannes. For example, within the given frames you can vary stiffness in mast and hull and the depth of the saill. There are small differences on the boats, but for the top sailers, they make a difference.”
Johannes is pleased with his boat but adds that he always wants the best, and continuously works to test the benefits and to optimise it.
So, what makes him cope with all the training and travelling?
”The sailing brings out the best in me,” he says. ”I’m also a competitive person, I like to compare myself to others. And I enjoy sailing and travelling to new, exciting places to do what I love the most.”For almost 25 years, MAFI has essentially delivered standard solutions to the global telecom industry. Since a month, MAFI operates within two business areas:
MAFI Standard Solutions (MSS) and MAFI Integrated Solutions (MSS).
“We are now creating a greater focus on both our standard and speciality products,” says Pierre Bengtsson, MAFI´s CEO. ”We are also increasing resources in both business areas.”
